Coming into this class I had not been exposed to many Gothic and Horror works. However, I have thoroughly enjoyed the many different genres and types of literature we have covered so far! I look forward to the remaining works.

Week 6 - The Hobbit (6 points)

      I had only had the privilege of seeing The Hobbit movie prior to taking this course. So naturally I was excited to read the actual book to compare how accurate the movie was to the original text. I found the sheer world building and hyper descriptive nature of Tolkien's writing to be like nothing I had experienced prior. I am a Motion Design major here at Ringling, so a large part of my job in many projects I take on is to create a visual narrative to represent lets say a voice over of someone, and how that would be animated to connect the viewer to the narrative on both a spoken aloud and visual level. Week 12: Bloodchild (5 points)

 My reaction to Bloodchild varied throughout the text. Going into it I did not know what really to expect. Once I grasped the power dynamic between the humans and the tlic, it certainly only got more bizarre as the story progressed. The idea of in this universe the men being the ones forced to bare the children for the tlic was something very different and the details that went into the birthing scene that Gan was exposed to was very graphic. I always find stories involving the coexistent of aliens and humans to be interesting and usually offer a variety in how the plot is told. And Bloodchild is certainly no exception to that!  The parts that I was able to connect with was the reason behind Gan going through with agreeing to have the child for the tlic. This motivator is a pretty common theme in a lot of stories across many different genres. Week 4 - Annihilation (6)

       For this week's reading, I read Annihilation . I very much became very interested and fascinated by the plot of this story early on because I love the mixture between horror and sci-fi that the author made. After reading this book as well as watching the trailer for the movie, it reminded me a lot of the movie Arrival . I draw this parallel from many observations but the one that I think best represents it is how in both stories, the character's are introduced to sights and places that would have been "unimaginable" or so abstract in their form that they completely shatter their viewers relation and connection to what is real, and what is not. Another way to say that is "we don't know what we don't know, because we don't know it!"
